From August 30 to October 3, the military exercises of the National Armed Forces "Namejs 2021" will take place throughout Latvia, in order to test and improve the readiness of the units to deploy to fulfill national defense tasks both independently and within the framework of the collective defense system.

In the "Namejs 2021" scenario, the military exercises are combined with the "Silver Arrow" military exercises of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Ground Forces, as well as with other tactical field exercises of the units and headquarters of the National Armed Forces to overcome the threat of hybrid warfare.

The tasks of the military exercise "Namejs 2021" are to evaluate and improve the command system of the National Armed Forces, strengthen cooperation between units, check and improve supply issues, integration procedures of air and ground operations, as well as implement and evaluate tactical operations in hybrid and conventional conflict conditions.

Also, cooperation with the structures of the Ministry of the Interior, the Emergency Medical Assistance Service, local governments and private companies is planned in the training, thus strengthening the comprehensive national defense system.

The training will take place in two phases - at the end of August and the first half of September, actions will be practiced in hybrid threat conditions, while in the second half of September, a conventional threat scenario will be played out.

About 9,300 participants take part in the military exercises "Namejs 2021", including soldiers of the Latvian and allied armed forces, national guardsmen, reserve soldiers, including Latvian citizens who are taking a military training course for reservists, employees of the Ministry of Defense and personnel of the structures of the Ministry of the Interior - the State Police, the State Border Guard, Employees of the State Fire and Rescue Service and Prisons Administration.

The active phase of the military training cycle takes place not only at the Ādaži landfill and regional landfills, but also in Riga and neighboring counties, as well as in Jelgava, Kuldīga, Dobele, Ventspils, Aizkraukle, Jēkabpils, Preiļi, Daugavpils, Rēzekne and other cities. During military exercises, the movement of military equipment and personnel is possible anywhere in the territory of Latvia.
